Older Americans' life

According to my survey, the older Americans want to live alone after they retire. They do not want to rely on their grown children. They want to spend their life independently and happily on their own. I also asked my roommate her grandparents. She told me that her grandfather still working three days a week for a couple of hours in the museum. He feels bored and lonely if he does not do anything with his free time. He also enjoys travelling and walking. In my point of view, all the Americans are hardworking whatever their age will be. Americans do not want to spend their time without doing anything. For my country, the grandparents live with thier son or daughter's family. If one has a lot of childern, his/her children take turn to take care of them.

Observations of Children and adult

The interaction between children and adult in American is different compared to my country. I go to my host family for dinner almost every Friday. I found out that, sometimes, my host sister yell back to her mother and father. As my country's culture, the childeren should not shout back to the elders, especially the parents. If the elders or the parents misunderstand the young, the children should talk in an appropriate way politely. We considered shouting back to the elders as a rude manner. Also, it will be the big sin if you are a Buddhist.

American Family

I have my roommate who is American. Her name is Brittany Malin. She has a five family members. She is the eldest and she has one younger sister and one younger brother. Her grandmother lives with them, too. She is now a junior student in UWEC. She live on campus. Her family has a farm. She goes back home twice a month during the weekend. Whenever she is ill or she has a serious personal problem, her mother takes care of her. She would like to ask her sister for advice. As one of the children in the family, she has to be a well educated student. Since she is the eldest one in the family, she needs to take care of her sister and brother. Her family and relatives gather around every Thanksgiving holiday. Also, they gather for her grandmother's birthday. Apart form those days, she rarely see and talk to her relatives. For the Christmas, she celebrates only with the family, not the relatives. She has a close family because each family members love each other and she also always wants to visit home as much as she can. Her parents, especially her mother calls her almost every night to make sure she is doing well.

What is your country's policy on immigration? Would you want to be an immigrant in your country? Why or why not?

My country, Myanmar, the policy on immigration is strict for the people who wants to migrate in the other foreign countries, especially for United States and Japan. The immigration is not so strict to the people compared to the United States' immigration. There are a lot of Indian and Chinese people who starts business in my country. They have a luxourious life in my country. Their accommodation is usually better than us. In addition, their business influenced on us. So, I do not want those immigrants in my country. They blog citizen's civil right by thier business power. I want to be immigrant in my country because my country has lots of natural sources.

Would you have a gun in your own home? Why or why not?

For this question I will definitely answer "No". I do not need a gun in my own home. It is very dangerous to have a gun in one's home. Although your intention of having a gun is to protect yourself or to hunt, it is still dangerous. I dare not to think what will be the risk if the gun in the house had been used. In addition, you should also consider about the children in your house. This is very dangerous. The risks of a gun is totally out of hand. I would like to say that if you want to protect yourself for in case of emergencies, you should have other tools like baseball bat. I don't have an enough knowledge that which countries are allowed to have a gun in the house, however, in my country, having a gun in the house is illegal. To conclude, I will never ever have a gun in my house for any reason.

"John Pinkum House" in Eau Claire. When I saw this house, I could not believe that this is one of the historical houses in Eau Claire. This house looks so fashionable in my eyes.

What is important to a person, possession or personality?

Are all the millionaires really satisfied and happy because of their property? You may envy those millionaires and you may want to have a lot of money as them. However, are they important to you? Do they play an important role in your life? Can they help you when you are in a really bad situation? Well, a person who have a lot of money will important in some way, for example, if you need a surgery and you do not have a lot of money, you will wish to have an enough money for you and you will think those millionaires are important for you. In order to decide what is important to a person, I will say that personality is important to a person. In my opinion, how much money do you have is not important for me to be my friend. How many houses and cars you own is not important for me.

A good person has to be kind, helpful, friendly, sympathetic and generous. These personalities will decide how important you are to the others. I do not care that my friends who is rich, or poor if they do have a good personality.

Do you think people all over the world are basically the same or basically very different?

In my opinion, people all over the world are basically the same. We, all human beings were born in different places in the world. In the world, each country has each own culture. Even though they have their own culture, some countries have the similar culture. Basically, if you are from Asian country like me, you will find some similarities among your neighbor countries. So, my point of view is that wherever we are from, we all human begins has the same daily life process. All human beings, especially for middle age people, they are working their jobs, they struggle for their family. The same for the children too. They have to learn in the school in order to know how to read and write in the education field. So, everyone has same life and intentions. To conclude, people all over the world are basically the same. The only difference is that the place where we live and our own culture.

Comparisons and contrasts between UWEC students and students in Myanmar

I arrived to UWEC on 07/04/09.After the first week in Wisconsin; I found out that students in UWEC have lots of assignments and activities to do. In my country, students only have assignments to be done. They do not have clubs to join in the university. Therefore, students in UWEC have more opportunity to know about people and activities beside school materials than students in Myanmar. I also found out that students in UWEC do not need to wear school uniform while students need to wear uniform for both school and university.
